Are you a Detroiter who likes to write? Do you consider yourself to be a journaler, poet, lyricist, storyteller, blogger, screenwriter, author, or any other creator who connects words? Is writing an unfamiliar hobby that you are considering getting into? Or, are you a student who just needs a space to finish essays? I feel all that. I have been a writer since I was a nerdy, curious kid. For the past 3 1/2 years, I have shared my reflections on Roots and Hope. Writing on here and elsewhere feeds my mental health and lets me encourage others. Truthfully though, I need more discipline with this practice. I’m sure I’m not alone. “Sit Down & Write” is a weekly initiative that I am excited to help cultivate. Every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm, I am posting myself at Detroit Sip, a Black owned coffee shop, to write. All are welcome. We can share ideas if we want. However, this time is primarily about showing up for ourselves and anyone who could be positively impacted by our written words. I hope you can join me!
